J Dilla: Dillanthology 3: Dilla's Production Dillanthology, Volume 1 featured the best of J Dilla's production for other artists. Volume 2 featured the best of J Dilla's remixes. In the final part of the trilogy is Dilla's production from his various albums.
For Dilla fans this will be the most useless of the Dillanthology compilations. Volume three contains: three tracks from Dilla's first album Welcome 2 Detroit, two tracks from Ruff Draft, two tracks from Champion Sound (although one is only available on the Deluxe Edition), two tracks from Donuts, two from The Shining, and two from this year's Jay Stay Paid.This is not to say that the tracks aren't good. "Raw Shit" from Championship Sound features Talib Kweli with one of his best guest verses. "So Far to Go" featuring Common and D'Angelo is one of the best lush productions of Dilla's career.
Of all the Dillanthology compilations, Volume 3 is by far the most beginner oriented but I think it may also be the best of the group. Sure it's basically a "best of" of Dilla's studio output but these are really the best tracks Dilla put out.
