K-OS is arguably Canada’s best musical export - in the Hip Hop spectrum - his production style and lyrical capabilities are the subject of admiration across the world. As one of those admirers’ myself, I was recently caught pondering about details of his next album. Although, I’m still indulging in his last masterpiece titled “Atlantis - Hymns for Disco” I was curious enough to do a little investigation which resulted as follows:
In the last couple of months I had been visiting K-OS’s myspace and noticed that the music player was featuring music from K-OS I hadn’t heard before starting with a track titled “Burning Bridges” and now updated a possible instrumental version of a song titled ”Eye Know”. It is possible that the both these records I mentioned above are from his up coming release which according to valid sources will be titled “Souls On Ice” or “Yes!”, my bets is on the latter because upon visiting his Myspace page again I noticed the image I have above set as his default picture added to the fact that the “Eye Know” track in the Myspace music player boasts the album title being “Yes!”.
However, the real title of the new album might still be up in the air, because a recent interview between K-OS and The National Post had determined that “Soul’s On Ice” would be the title for his next release. Interestingly ”Soul’s On Ice” had served as the original title of the track “Black Ice Hymn” on “Atlantis” before it was changed for reasons unknown.
In addition K-OS has also mentioned that this will be his return to his roots, Hip Hop. People often criticized “Atlantis” arguing that it leaned to heavy on the alternative side due too the actual amount of rapping from K-OS on the album. However, it is important for us to not let such minor details overlook the creativity behind “Atlantis”. K-OS took hip hop to places it had not gone before and I respect and thank him for that.
Despite all of the loose ends circulating K-OS next project one we can expect a earful of great music to accompany its release. Although, the track “Burning Bridge’s” is now a distant memory I can remember thinking at the time that it was another classic from our musical champion. If your reading this I hope that you will take some time to go and listen to “Eye Know” which is currently the only song on rotation in his music player which might be gone is you do not act quickly.
In conclusion, we don’t have a track list - which would be nice cause I’m interested to seeing if he’ll have any interesting collaborations (I’m hoping for Canadian renowned songstress Fiest as he does have a photo with her up on his myspace) - or any downloadable singles as of yet but we did provide what could possibly be the artwork of K-OS’ new album due out soon I hope, I need more monumental music in my life because these albums with as much replay value as “Transformers” for the PSP just don’t do the trick. Lastly, I can proudly say that like his previous major releases his new album being recorded in my home city, Vancouver, British Columbia. Brap Brap!
